In solidarity! Black Lives Matter!
I stand in solidarity! I think of Nelson Mandela, Martin Luther King JR., Steve Biko who gave up their lives to fight for racial equality, for a better world. For the countless unnamed who have lost their lives due to police brutality only because of the color of their skin.
I'm not American but I have an American born son who doesn’t look much like me. I think of his friends, my friends and how most of them are one big beautiful mix of races from around the world. I weep for African American mothers who live in daily terror of sending their boys out into the world not knowing if their sons will return home safely.
I don’t know what the answer is in this moment but I’m committed to fight for lasting change and somehow I must believe that this deep injustice and terror can be stopped. Now. Together! As my hero Mandela said:
“No one is born hating another person because of the color of his skin, or his background, or his religion. People must learn to hate, and if they can learn to hate, they can be taught to love, for love comes more naturally to the human heart than its opposite.”
